Introduction
West Pokot is a rugged county in Kenya’s Rift Valley, sharing a border with Uganda. It is the traditional home of the Pokot people, who are renowned for their strong pastoralist culture.
Its capital, Kapenguria, is historically significant as the site where Mau Mau leaders were detained. The county’s landscape is one of dramatic contrasts, from the lush Cherangani Hills to arid lowland plains. The economy is dominated by livestock keeping, which is central to the local way of life.
