Introduction
Nandi County is a high-altitude county located in the former Rift Valley Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Kapsabet. The county is characterized by the scenic Nandi Hills, a rolling landscape of lush green tea plantations and small-scale farms. This hilly terrain and high altitude are not only key to its agricultural success but also form the perfect training ground for world-class athletes.
Globally, Nandi is famously known as the “Source of Champions”. It has produced a remarkable number of legendary Kenyan long-distance runners, including Kipchoge Keino, Eliud Kipchoge, and Pamela Jelimo. The county’s economy is heavily reliant on agriculture, with tea farming being the primary cash crop, alongside significant maize and dairy farming. The Nandi people, a subgroup of the Kalenjin community, are the predominant inhabitants.
