Introduction
Garissa County is located in Eastern Kenya with Garissa town as its capital and largest urban area. It covers an area of approximately 44,753 km² and had a population of 800,000. The population is predominantly of Somali ethnic background.
The county shares an international border with Somalia to the east. Domestically, it’s bordered by Wajir and Isiolo counties to the north, Tana River County to the west, and Lamu County to the south. Historically, the area was part of the North Eastern Province before the 2010 Constitution established it as a devolved county.
